Weather and Children: Expectation Vs Reality Children are not born with well-formed skulls, but as a fact, they come loaded with different ideas and opinions. They develop thoughts with time such as, what they should eat, when they should sleep, who holds them and what to wear. By the time they are toddlers, you will realize that they have laid down their set of principles and cannot tolerate some clothing, some people and some instructions will not be followed no matter what. If you are an outdoor loving mum, you will always feel the urge to take the kids out with you despite the weather conditions and engage in fun filled activities on the way. It’s uncommon for some mothers, not liking outdoors activities while the kids push for outdoor activities. Sometimes the weather is unforgiving, but the question, is there a better weather that is just favorable for going out of the house? This therefore brings about the comparison of what we expect going outdoors with the kids compared to what actually is. Sunny day Expectation The expectations is spending the day in the garden with the kids, playing happily in the pool as you drink some nice drinks and enjoy the sun, Reality Getting everyone to have the sunscreen applied may take an hour and inflating the paddling pool may further last an hour. Within that time, the kids are already warmed up and have already lost interest. They can only try paddling for about 30 minutes before one falls over and the youngest gets distracted by a drowning bee. You try to convince them to continue playing outside, but they are very bored and the kids attempt to enter the pool headfirst and you begin realizing a sun headache. You take them and get back to the house with the kids all trying to hug you making you more tired. Rainy day Expectation, You will engage in fun and educational activities on a rainy day, then plant some seedlings after which you can do some play in the puddles together. Reality. There may be no activities on a rainy day because you failed to organize and prepare adequately for them. You identify some few crafts to make, but soon they are left alone, making the room dirty with small pieces of paper scattered around. You successfully coax the kids into wearing their waterproofs and you move out. The kids lose interest and find some have already taken off their shoes to wade through the mud. The seedlings will be planted after which they will be uprooted and left to die. Windy weather. Expectation: Go to the hills and fly kites. Reality; There is no single kite in the house and you realize no one knows how to fly a kite in normal weather. You get disoriented and hide trying to make yourself busy. If you successfully move out, convincing the kids to wear gloves and hats is a challenge. Snowy Expectation Everyone gets to wear their warmest clothes and the family comes to engage in snowball fights, building snowmen and finally grabbing some hot coffee. Reality. You wear your best clothes and the kids don a raincoat over the t-shirt. Within a short time the gloves are soaked and the kids are uncomfortable as their fingers hurt. Your only achievement is a 1 foot snow man who falls even before taking a photo. After the coffee, they head out with coffee spilled all over them.
